Whether you are looking for a coastline dining experience to enjoy the beautiful surrounding views of the Mediterranean or plan a visit to one of the inland restaurants that can provide a different historical insight to the island, Mallorca has something for every culinary taste with a wide selection of fine dining options. Mallorca enjoys around 300 days a year of sunshine and there is nothing more satisfying than looking out to sea from one of its fine restaurants along its alluring coastline. There are in excess of 2000 restaurants and eateries in Mallorca that cater for every taste and preference from a high-end dining experience at one of its eleven Michelin star restaurants to more affordable menu del dia options that offer excellent cuisine at a more cost-effective price. Many different restaurants providing international cuisine can be found in Mallorca from Indian to Mexican, Italian to Argentinian and a profusion of others, many of which are located in and around Palma.

Mallorca also offers a number of food and wine tasting opportunities around the island including wine tasting with tapas in Palma, visits to wine cellars, as well as the chance to join in a cooking workshop experience where you can learn new skills related to Mallorcan and other cuisines. Some of these tasting experiences form part of a guided tour around various local sights where you get to feel the more authentic side of life in Mallorca.

Mallorca is well served with gastronomic markets, not least of which is the Centro Commercial S’Escorxador in the northern area of Palma. The area of the market occupies what was formerly the old slaughterhouse, built around 1905 and it offers an amazing choice of food products ranging from fine cheeses, meats, wines, fruits and vegetables etc. featuring products from around the world and of course Spanish regional alternatives. In addition to the S’Escorxador market there are two other main gastronomic markets in Palma, one being the El Mercado de Santa Catalina and the other is the Mercat d’Olivar in the Placa d’Olivar.

In most towns around the island you can find an inclusive selection of supermarkets that cater for all day-to-day culinary products and ingredients in supermarkets such as Mercadona, Carrefour, Eroski, Aldi and Lidl. Most of these offer a wide range of groceries, fruit and vegetables, meats, fish and seafood and also cater for a number of special dietary requirements. Mallorca also takes on board the large number of expats within its community and provides a comprehensive selection of food products for a wide range of international culinary tastes when you find that you are perhaps missing some of those must-have products from your home country.

From its fine range of excellent restaurants for a dining experience to suit a variety of budgets to gastro markets and supermarkets for those who enjoy the comfort of at-home dining, Mallorca has it all and it would not be surprising that Mallorca is often described as the gastronomic capital of Spain.
